Have you a Business Continuity Plan in place ?

A disaster recovery or business continuity plan is ESSENTIAL to protect the well being of any organization.

Although this cannot really be over emphasized, so many organizations still side step the issue, or have plans which are out of date or just unworkable.

There are a number of reasons for this, including complexity, and of course the fact that some vendors sell planning products, which are themselves very difficult to manage.

The recent trend though is to seek simplicty and good productivity in the planning process:

to create the plan directly using a quality template and good supporting guides and forms.

New to Business Continuity or Disaster Recovery Planning?

Continuity plan can be defined as 'the processes, procedures, decisions and activities to ensure that an organisation can continue to function through an operational interruption'.

What if your computer crashed?

What if you had a serious fire and lost everything in the business?

What if you had a flood and lost everything in the business?

A lot of WHAT IF's

In other words, it is about making proactive, and reactive plans, to help your organisation avoid crises, and disasters, and to be able to quickly return to 'business as usual' should they occur.

What is Business Continuity Planning ?

Where a plan is developed that, when implemented, will help to prevent operational interruptions, crises and disasters happening, and will help the organisation quickly return to a state of 'business as usual' should any of these events occur.

Once it has been prepared the continuity plan must be tested and exercised to ensure that it will perform as anticipated.

and Business Continuity Management?

Why you should take it seriously....
• The ongoing management of the continuity plan is to ensure that it is always current and available and
• The ongoing management of operational resilience and process availability within an organisation, with the aim of ensuring that the organisation experiences the minimum possible day-to-day disruption.

Business continuity achieves various things for organisations, with the degree of success in each area dependent on the amount of effort, skill, resource and commitment provided by the organisation for business activities.

There will be a number of outcomes in every continuity program which are specific to the organisation in question, but why should you take business continuity seriously ?
