What Is Search Engine Optimisation ?

Quite simply, this is a method for improving your web page position on the search engines.

Why is this important?

When you have put all your effort into writing good content, you want people to read it and come to your website.

What do Search Engines look for?

To build a website, and get a good position on a search engine, this is determined in most cases by keyword usage.

You can't construct one page that will appeal to all search engines.

The spiders that rate sites for search engines, vary in their tastes.

Some like a high density of keywords while others accept very low densities.

Some like large pages (800 words), and some like smaller pages (300-500 words).

Some engines use the meta tags in the head section of your document, while others like Google, ignore them.

How do we get a good position on Search Engines?

Title and meta tags should be optimized.

To build a website page, go for about 400-500 words and shoot for a keyword density of 3 - 5%.

Build your website and place keywords as follow:
1. Once in Title
2. Once in meta tag - keywords
3. Once in meta tag- description
4. Open with a header tag that includes the keyword or phrase.
5. Place the keyword or phrase very early in the first paragraph.
6. Use the keyword and synonymns throughout the page body.
7. Place the keyword or phrase in the closing paragraph.
8. Place keywords in links to other pages.
9. Place keywords in alt tags of images.
10. For search engines that don't use meta tags, place the information from the meta tag in comment statements after the meta tag.
